Banka Koper Protects the Environment, Buys Bikes for Employees

23.08.2010

Banka Koper has always been committed to responsible treatment of the environment and environmental resources, to which it is also bound by the Bank's Code of Ethics. As a member of the Intesa Sanpaolo international bank group, Banka Koper joined the international Bike Sharing project this year, thus contributing to the group's efforts to reduce emissions harmful to the environment, as well as improving employee mobility. To this end, Banka Koper bought a number of bicycles that employees can use either for short work-related rides around town or for private purposes.

The project first began in 2008 at the Intesa Sanpaolo bank in Italy and was named "Bicinbanca" ("Bike in the Bank"). As Intesa Sanpaolo extended its operations into other European countries and the Mediterranean, its subsidiaries began to join the project and Banka Koper was one of the first to do so. The project was given a more international name - Bike Sharing - but its basic goal remains the same: to ensure greater employee mobility using means of transport that do not emit CO2.

For employee use, Banka Koper purchased three women's and six men's modern city bikes with three speeds and brakes attached to the wheel hub. All bikes are green, a recognisable colour of the Intesa Sanpaolo group trademark, as well as its subsidiary, Banka Koper. All bikes have a retro look, which gives them a special charm.

At the start, bicycles will be available to employees in Koper, Ljubljana and Maribor, since these three locations have the heaviest traffic, which makes travelling by car difficult and slow. The bikes are a suitable and, above all, environmentally friendly alternative. During business hours, employees will be able to use the bikes from 8:00 to 16:00 and they will be able to borrow the bikes for private use every day after 16:00 until the beginning of the next business day and during weekends.
