New year's donation by Banka Koper - 2009

12.01.2010

In December, the directors of fourteen business units of Banka Koper delighted humanitarian organisations at various ceremonies with symbolic cheques for amounts of a thousand euros. The cheques were received by regional associations of the Red Cross and similar organisations dealing with people's distress on a daily basis. Due to the economic crisis, this charitable gesture by Banka Koper was especially welcomed. All humanitarian organisations are particularly faced with an increased number of applicants for aid, as the closure of companies causes a number of families to run into severe financial trouble every day.

It has now become a tradition for Banka Koper to assign a share of the funds allocated for gifts to business partners in the pre-New Year period. This year's donations will help socially disadvantaged families to pay bills, rent and basic necessities. Special attention will be devoted to children and young people from these families. The bank hopes that the allocated funds will at least partly alleviate people's distress and help to fulfil modest wishes which are often hard to achieve in the current conditions.

The donated cheques delighted the people in the Primorska region, in the cities of Koper, Izola, Piran, Nova Gorica, Sežana, Ilirska Bistrica and Postojna, and also in other cities around Slovenia, such as Grosuplje, Jesenice, Celje, Maribor, Slovenj Gradec, Novo mesto and Murska Sobota, i.e. at the locations of the bank offices.

Individual recipients of the donations include:

  • the regional associations of the Slovenian Red Cross in Koper, Piran, Postojna and Grosuplje,
  • the Day Care and Work Centre in Koper,
  • the Friends of Youth Association in Ilirska Bistrica,
  • Maribor University Medical Centre,
  • Murska Sobota General Hospital,
  • the Friends of Youth Association in Idrija,
  • the Julija Association in Novo Mesto,
  • Jesenice Nursery School,
