Banka Koper and the Slovenia Open 2009
25.05.2009This year, again, Banka Koper is the official sponsor of the Slovenia Open tournament for women's tennis. The Banka Koper Slovenia Open, as the tournament is officially named, will take place between 20 and 26 July at the courts of the sport recreational centre Marina in Portorose.
For the fifth year in a row, the tournament will bring to Portorož some of the most prominent names in the tennis world, Dinara Safina among them. In previous years, Vera Zvonareva and Caroline Wozniacki, who currently rank among the top ten female tennis players in the world, competed on the Slovenian coast. Beside them, the first lady of Slovene tennis, Katarina Srebotnik, regularly competes in Portorose, as well as the favourite of the domestic audience, Andreja Klepač, from Koper, a young rising star, Polona Herzog, and many other notable players from Slovenia and abroad.
Our bank will stand by the organisers for the fifth year in a row. This relationship, which has already surpassed ordinary cooperation and is growing into true friendship, carries the good name of Banka Koper as well as that of Slovene sport into neighbouring countries and beyond. Tennis truly is a global sport; female players from all six continents have participated in the Banka Koper Slovenia Open within the last five years, so the eyes of sports lovers from all over the world are on this competition.
We are also pleased that such an event of global format is mainly organised by local organisers. At Banka Koper, we are pleased and proud that, each summer, so many capable women and men, so many ambitious girls and boys contribute to this tournament and do their best to help put together this colourful mosaic of joy and disappointments, successes and lapses, wins and defeats that distinguish the sport and life itself.
We have been following the tournament in Portorose ever since its start and are pleased to note that it grows and develops each year. We are convinced that the Banka Koper Slovenia Open 2009 will be the best so far.
